I mostly use it in and around Vienna (also half a year in Birmingham, England). Sometimes I had problems because the Cables of the new Dynamo I now use union, being not happy with the original Sovites and the speedometer. Name: Hugh Martin E-mail: hughmartin@lineone.net Country: UK Model: Copenhagen Pedersen Text: Bought 1995 and built up with Sachs five speed hub gear and hub brakes. Extensively used for commuting but now like me in semi-retirement. Constantly being modified most recently with the addition of tandem "stoker" handlebars from SJS Cycles which move the hands to a position well ahead of the forks. Quite comfortable but a slightly weird effect on the handling. |

Name: John Margetts E-mail: johnnymargelis@yahoo.co.uk Country: UK Model: Copenhagen Pedersen Text: I have by 2002. Covered about 85000km on my Pedersen. India twice, Turkey twice, Greece, Italy, Holland twice, Belgium, France 3 times, all of England, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and I don't know where to go next. The bike has a 4 gear shimano hub system in preference to the sturmey archer 5 speed which was unreliable. I made the seat as I don't know where to buy them and it is way passed it's use by date. The bike also has a smuggling compartment, cheap but cheerful Thai computer and a rather excellent carrywell back rack which over 1000's of miles has completely lost it's shape but nevertheless functions well. I'm not a Sunday afternoon fairweather poser and use my Pedersen daily rain or shine. |

Name: Peter Williams Address: peter.crwilliams@virgin.net Country: UK Model: original Text: Until he retired last September my father in law John Carty owned the "Jack Carter and Son" bike shop in Newton-Le-Willows Lancs UK. He had run this shop along with his father for over 60 years. During that time he collected one or two classic bikes of which a 1902-ish Dursley-Pederson was his pride and joy. Sadly shortly after his retirement John found that he had Motor Neurone Disease and after a very traumatic time for all the family he died in June this year. Because of the physical impact of the disease John did not get a chance to empty the shop and a few personal items remained in the store room. On Sunday 4th August the shop was broken into and the Dursley-Pederson bike was stolen. As you can imagine for a family still grieving for the husband and father they had lost the theft of something so personal to John came as a further emotional blow. I would very much appreciate it if you could post the following details on your web site and ask any of your members to keep an eye out for any bike offered for sale which matches the description below. Please email any leads to me or contact Saint Helens police directly phone 0151 7776969 A- Dursley-Pederson "Gentleman"s Cycle" manufactured around 1902. A- Original 3 speed gear hub dated 1906 front and rear oil lamps and a cyclometer made by New York Watch Company in 1898 measuring down to 100th of a mile. A- Subsequently repainted in dark green - Original hammock saddle. I have photos of the bike if anyone would like to check any details - let me know if this would help Thank you for your consideration of this request and please do not hesitate to contact me for any further details etc. Regards Peter Williams |

| Name: Barrie James Email: barriejames@tiscali.co.uk Country: UK Model: Copenhagen Text: I first saw a Dursley Pedersen in the London Science Museum as a boy of 8. At the time I said to my father I would buy one of those when I grew up. Fifty-two years later, I was assisting my younger son with his University dissertation, which was about the history of bicycle design, I re-discovered the bicycle of my boyhood dreams. I had recently retired from my job and had the money from the collection my colleagues had made for me. So I purchased a replica Pedersen from London Recumbents, a cycle dealers in London. It is a Solling, Kalkoff & Pedersen cycle, with one of Jesper Solling's frames and built-up by Kalle Kalkoff in Germany. It has a brown leather saddle, nickel plated royal handlebars, Shimano 7 speed hub gears, with roller-cam rear brake, and a front dynohub with automatic lights. I find it a very comfortable cycle to ride, and find I tend to use it in preference to my other cycles. I find that I get asked so many questions about the Pedersen that I have made an A4 three-fold leaflet that I can give to people who are interested. My younger son who is in the cycle industry himself, cycles everywhere and builds his own frames, says that it is the most comfortable cycle he has ever ridden. |
